Back to SearchThe City of Yellowknife advises residents and visitors that updated parking meter rates will take effect on May 1, 2026, following City Council's approval in December 2025. These changes are part of an amendment to Fees and Charges By-law No. 4436 and apply to all parking meters across the city.
What’s changing:
- Parking meter rates will increase across all meter types
- Nickels (5 cents) will no longer be accepted at 1- and 2-hour parking meters
- No changes are being made to Parking Certificate Services
Transition period (May 1 to May 14, 2026):
- The Municipal Enforcement Division will reprogram parking meters throughout the city to reflect the updated rates. During this time, residents may encounter a mix of meters displaying previous and new rates.
The new rates will apply to both coin-operated meters and digital payments made through the Passport Parking Canada app, which will be updated with the new rates starting May 1, 2026.
