The City of Yellowknife will conduct a test of the Voyent Alert! emergency notification system on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. This test is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to keeping residents informed and prepared in the event of an emergency.
The Voyent Alert! system, launched in May 2025, is designed to deliver critical emergency information to registered users through their preferred communication channels—mobile app, text message, email, or automated phone call. More information about the system is available at the Emergency Alert Notification webpage.
To participate in the test, residents must be registered with Voyent Alert! Those already signed up will receive the test message based on their selected notification method(s). Residents who are not yet registered are encouraged to do so before the test to ensure they receive future alerts. Registration is simple and free and can be completed by downloading the Voyent Alert! mobile app or visiting the Voyent Alert website.
Voyent Alert! is free, anonymous, and requires minimal personal information. Users do not need to be physically located in Yellowknife to receive alerts. The system allows individuals to set one or more location pins for addresses that matter to them—such as homes, schools, or workplaces—and will issue alerts if those locations are affected.
The City encourages all residents to take time to review their personal emergency preparedness plans and to consider how they will stay informed during emergencies. For more information on general emergency preparedness, visit the Emergency Information webpage.
