Closure Of Old Town Parking Lot for New Lift Station Construction

The Old Town Parking Lot will be closed to the public beginning July 22, 2025, to accommodate construction for the Lift Station #1 Replacement Project.

This project represents a significant investment in the City of Yellowknife’s wastewater and sewage infrastructure and is essential to maintaining reliable and efficient service for the community over the long term. Construction is expected to take approximately three years, during which time the parking lot will remain closed to public access.

Structure Fire at Sundog Trading Post

On Friday, June 27, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the City of Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a reported structure fire at 4 Lessard Drive.

Upon arrival, responding crews observed flames and smoke emanating from the back of the building. A total of 17 firefighters were deployed to the scene, and the fire was brought under control and fully extinguished. Crews remained on site until approximately 4:00 p.m. to ensure the scene was safe and secure.

Fire Ban in Yellowknife – Effective July 2, 2025

The City of Yellowknife advises residents that a local fire ban will take effect on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., and will remain in place until further notice.
 
Due to extremely dry conditions, the current fire danger rating within Yellowknife is classified as Extreme.
 
Implementing a fire ban is a proactive measure to reduce the risk of wildfire within City limits. The fire ban prohibits all open-air burning and the discharge of fireworks, including the use of approved fire pits.
