Fire Ban in Yellowknife – Effective July 2, 2025

The City of Yellowknife advises residents that a local fire ban will take effect on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., and will remain in place until further notice.
 
Due to extremely dry conditions, the current fire danger rating within Yellowknife is classified as Extreme.
 
Implementing a fire ban is a proactive measure to reduce the risk of wildfire within City limits. The fire ban prohibits all open-air burning and the discharge of fireworks, including the use of approved fire pits.

Boat Explosion On 54 Street

On July 1, 2025, at approximately 2:11 a.m., YKFD received a call to 5122 54 Street regarding an explosion involving a boat parked in the driveway of a residence. Upon arrival, YKFD crew found the boat was significantly damaged by the blast and debris in the immediate area. The explosion also caused significant damage to the residence’s garage, with additional damage sustained by neighbouring properties.

In observance of the Canada Day Statutory Holiday on Tuesday, July 1, City of Yellowknife facilities and services will operate as follows:

•     City Hall: Closed
•     Solid Waste Facility: Closed
•     Garbage Collection: Operating on regular schedule
•     Trucked Water and Sewer Pumpout: Operating on regular schedule
•     Fieldhouse: Open from 12p.m. – 6p.m.
•     Multiplex: Open from 12p.m. – 6p.m.
•     Aquatic Centre: Open from 12p.m. – 1p.m. for Lane Swim and 1p.m. – 5p.m. for Public Swim
