Canada Day Event – Celebrating Together in Yellowknife
The City of Yellowknife (the City) invites residents to celebrate Canada Day at Somba K’e Civic Plaza on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
A wide range of activities are planned to make this free event memorable, offering opportunities for Yellowknifers to connect, celebrate, and enjoy together.
National Broadcast – Showcasing Northern Talent
As previously announced, the City of Yellowknife has been selected by Heritage Canada as one of only three Canadian cities—outside of the nation’s capital—to participate in the 2025 National Canada Day Evening Broadcast. The broadcast will air live on CBC and Radio-Canada beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.
As part of this national celebration, the City will present a live performance featuring two acclaimed Northern artists:
- Brenda Montana – An Inuk pop singer-songwriter and TikTok influencer from Rankin Inlet, whose bilingual music uplifts Inuit culture and conveys messages of hope and unity.
- Crook The Kid (Dylan Jones) – A Métis hip-hop artist from Fort Good Hope, known for his compelling storytelling and cultural advocacy.
The artists have collaborated on a special musical piece composed specifically for this occasion, which will be performed publicly for the first time during the national broadcast.
The broadcast will also feature performances from Ottawa, Summerside, and Vancouver, connecting Canadians from across the country through music, dance, and shared celebration.
Multicultural Community of Yellowknife Partnership – The ‘Global Village’ & Main Stage Entertainment
The City of Yellowknife is pleased to highlight a valued local partnership with the Multicultural Community of Yellowknife (MCY):
- The Global Village will feature a diverse selection of food vendors. Booths will be setup at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza, offering complimentary samples from regions including Africa, Taiwan, India, China, Pakistan, Greece, and more.
- Main stage performances from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., showcasing live music, dance, and fashion that reflect the rich cultural fabric of Yellowknife.
