The Old Town Parking Lot will be closed to the public beginning July 22, 2025, to accommodate construction for the Lift Station #1 Replacement Project.

This project represents a significant investment in the City of Yellowknife’s wastewater and sewage infrastructure and is essential to maintaining reliable and efficient service for the community over the long term. Construction is expected to take approximately three years, during which time the parking lot will remain closed to public access.

Property owners with items stored on-site will receive reminder calls from the Municipal Enforcement Division regarding the final deadline for removal, which is Monday, July 21, 2025. Any remaining items after this date will be towed and securely stored at the Solid Waste Facility.

Recycling bins currently located in the Old Town Parking Lot will be removed from service for the duration of the construction project. Residents are encouraged to use alternative recycling depots elsewhere, such as 52 Street and the landfill.

The City acknowledges the inconvenience this may cause, particularly during the summer and tourism seasons, as the Old Town Parking Lot is a popular space used by residents, businesses, and visitors. Alternative parking options are available in the area, as outlined in the City of Yellowknife Highway Traffic By-law No. 5055.

The City of Yellowknife appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as this important project progresses. Updates will be provided through official channels as new information becomes available.
