On Thursday, October 30, 2025, at approximately 2:56 p.m., the City of Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a reported structure fire at 248 Borden Drive, which was initially reported by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Upon arrival, the crew observed smoke emanating from the back of the building. A total of 19 firefighters were deployed to the scene, and the fire was promptly brought under control and fully extinguished.

Fire crews remained on site until approximately 4:44 p.m. to ensure the area was safe and secure. The fire was contained to the rear portion of the structure, and no injuries were reported. The Municipal Enforcement Division (MED) and the RCMP assisted in managing traffic in the vicinity during the incident.

Following an investigation, the fire was determined to be accidental, caused by an unattended candle.

The YKFD reminds residents to always monitor open flames and candles, and to ensure they are fully extinguished before leaving the area.
