The City of Yellowknife is pleased to announce that the Yellowknife Visitor Centre has welcomed its 100,000th visitor on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, since opening at its downtown location in the Centre Square Mall on September 12, 2022.
This milestone highlights the strong and growing interest in Yellowknife as a destination for visitors from around the world, as well as the continued engagement of local residents who visit the Centre to attend public events, enjoy the art gallery, and appreciate Indigenous and cultural exhibits.
Since reopening post-pandemic, the Yellowknife Visitor Centre has experienced a steady and encouraging increase in visitors, reflecting a broader recovery and growth of the tourism sector. This positive trend demonstrates that tourism in Yellowknife is not only active but expanding, and that the city remains a sought-after destination for travelers and an important hub for community and cultural engagement.
Tourism plays a significant role in Yellowknife’s economy and has the potential to become an even greater contributor to the city's long-term prosperity. Businesses across multiple sectors, particularly those supporting Aurora tourism, are poised to benefit from sustained and increasing visitor traffic.

“This milestone is a testament to the value of the City’s sustained investment in tourism. Through the adoption of the Tourism Strategy 2025–2028, the City has advanced its role as a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) and implemented the Tourism Accommodation Levy to support reinvestment in the sector. I extend my thanks to the Government of the Northwest Territories, as well as our local partners and businesses, for their ongoing contributions to making Yellowknife a welcoming and vibrant destination.”
