The City of Yellowknife is beginning planning for future improvements to the Niven Lake Ravine Trail and is inviting residents and trail users to participate in the first round of public engagement.

The Niven Lake Ravine Trail, also known as the Fire Cutline Path or Niven Firebreak Trail, is an important year-round community corridor for walking, cycling, skiing, snowmobiling, commuting, and accessing nature. Through Engagement Round 1, the City seeks feedback on how the trail is used today, what people value most, and what should be considered as future trail design options are developed.

"The Niven Lake Ravine Trail is an important part of how people move through and enjoy our community," said Grant White, Director of Community Services. "Everyday users bring valuable knowledge about how the trail functions in different seasons, where opportunities exist, and what should be considered as we begin planning for its future. Their feedback will help us make better informed decisions as the project moves forward."

The project builds on a long-term vision to strengthen connections between the Niven Lake neighbourhood, surrounding communities, and recreational amenities. It also complements broader planning initiatives currently underway, including updates to the City's Comprehensive Community Plan and the development of the Transportation Plan. Together with technical analysis, community feedback will help inform future trail design options.
