The City of Yellowknife is preparing to welcome residents from Fort Simpson following an evacuation order.
To support emergency response efforts, the Yellowknife Multiplex has been activated as a reception and lodging centre for evacuees and will be closed to the public until further notice.
"Yellowknife has always been a community that comes together when our neighbours need us most," said Mayor Ben Hendriksen. "Our thoughts are with the residents of Fort Simpson during this difficult time. We are ready to welcome evacuees and support them while they are away from home, and I thank Yellowknife residents for their patience and understanding as we come together to help our northern neighbours."
