The City of Yellowknife is pleased to welcome two new members to its Senior Management Team: Stacia Kean, Director of Economic Opportunities, Investments and Partnerships, and Ken Brunton, Director of Community Services.

"Stacia and Ken bring extensive leadership experience and a strong commitment to public service. Their experience and collaborative approach will be valuable as we develop professional and productive relationships with incoming Mayor-elect Syer and the new Council," said Stephen Van Dine.

Stacia Kean, Director of Economic Opportunities, Investments and Partnerships

Stacia started her new role on October 26, marking her return to the City of Yellowknife, where she previously served as Manager of Economic Opportunities, Investments and Partnerships.

With more than 15 years of experience in economic development, policy, communications and organizational leadership, Stacia brings a strong understanding of Northern communities and economic development priorities.

Most recently, she served as Senior Territorial Policy Analyst and Team Lead with the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), providing strategic advice on Northern economic development, major projects, infrastructure and intergovernmental priorities.

Stacia holds a Master of Business Administration and brings extensive experience in building partnerships and supporting economic and community development across Northern Canada.

“I’m excited to return to the City of Yellowknife and work for a community that means so much to me,” said Stacia Kean, Director of Economic Opportunities, Investments and Partnerships. “I look forward to working with colleagues and partners to advance Council’s priorities and capitalize on the opportunities ahead. For me, that means delivering lasting benefits for Yellowknifers and building on our capital city’s role in supporting growth across the North.”

Ken Brunton, Director of Community Services

Ken joins the City on November 9, replacing Grant White, who retired in August. Ken brings extensive experience in recreation, community services, municipal governance and organizational leadership.

Most recently, he served as Senior Manager, Personnel Support Programs at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, where he oversaw recreation, fitness, community programming, health promotion, facilities and events. In this role, he was responsible for more than 250 staff and significant operating and capital budgets.

Throughout his career, Ken has held leadership positions in recreation and community services and contributed to municipal governance through his work with the Lac Ste. Anne County Municipal Planning Commission. He also brings experience in strategic planning, partnership development, public engagement and emergency response.

Ken holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta, has completed Indigenous education training and is bilingual in English and French. He looks forward to making Yellowknife his new home.

“I look forward to listening to residents and working with the dedicated Council, City staff and community partners,” said Ken Brunton, incoming Director of Community Services. “Together we can continue to build on the strengths that make Yellowknife a unique place to live, a place where residents of all ages have opportunities to stay active, connect with others, get involved and enjoy a great quality of life.”

The City also extends its appreciation to Carly Saunders for her leadership and contributions as Acting Director of Community Services.

“These additions will bring valuable talent and new perspectives to the City. I look forward to the contributions Stacia and Ken will bring to their respective roles, to the Mayor and Council, and the Yellowknife community,” said Stephen Van Dine.
