Fire Ban In Effect for Yellowknife

Monday, June 29, 2026
Yellowknife Fire Division

Effective today, June 29, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., the City of Yellowknife has implemented a fire ban due to ongoing hot, dry conditions. The fire ban prohibits all open-air burning within city limits, including the use of approved fire pits, and will remain in effect until further notice.

The fire ban does not apply to CSA-approved propane appliances used for cooking and heating, such as camp stoves and enclosed barbecues. Residents are reminded to use these appliances safely and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

"With ongoing wildfire activity and evacuations in neighbouring communities, every resident has a role to play in reducing fire risk. By respecting the fire ban and practicing fire-safe habits, we can help protect our community and support the efforts underway across the Northwest Territories," said Yellowknife Deputy Fire Chief Rob Andrews.

Residents are asked to respect the fire ban and exercise caution when using all permitted outdoor appliances.
