Local Fire Ban Remains in Effect

This sculpture, created in 2009 by Yellowknife artist Francois Thibault depicts three drum dancers. It is located at the edge of Frame Lake in front of Yellowknife's City Hall.

The City of Yellowknife would like to advise residents that while the regional fire ban implemented by the GNWT is due to expire by end of day today, August 2, 2024, the local fire ban will remain in effect until further notice.

With the current dry conditions, the fire danger rating within Yellowknife is extreme, and as such, it is important that residents continue to respect the local fire ban in place. The fire ban prohibits open air burning and discharging of fireworks within city limits, including the use of approved fire pits.

The use of camp-stoves, enclosed BBQs, and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved propane-fueled appliances are permitted. Outdoor propane-fueled burners are also permitted for heating and/or cooking, but must be used within the confines of a fire pit.

Information about fire bans and the fire danger rating can be found on the City of Yellowknife’s website under Wildfire Updates.
