The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a tent fire in a treed area behind Crestview Apartments near 5001 52 Avenue during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026.

YKFD crews responded within eight minutes of receiving the call and arrived to find a tent on fire. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and remained on scene to ensure the area was safe before concluding operations.

There were no injuries reported, and the fire was contained to the tents, preventing it from spreading to the surrounding trees, brush, or nearby structures. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The City acknowledges the assistance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), who also attended the scene.

With dry conditions continuing and a fire ban in effect within Yellowknife city limits, open burning is strictly prohibited. Residents are reminded to report any signs of fire immediately by calling 9-1-1 and to stay informed by following the City's website and social media channels for the latest fire ban updates.

Everyone has a role to play in reducing fire risk and protecting our community.
