The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a structure fire at Wood Fired Pizzeria on 49 Street in the early morning hours of today.

The YKFD received the call at 3:57 a.m., and fourteen firefighters responded to the incident. Fire crews arrived on scene at 4:05 a.m. and the fire was declared under control at 5:51 a.m. Crews remained on scene until operations concluded at 9:35 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a significant structure fire that had already spread to adjacent structures located beside and behind the main building. Fire crews worked to contain the fire and prevent further spread to surrounding properties.

No injuries or casualties were reported as a result of the incident.

The Yellowknife Fire Division thanks the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Municipal Enforcement Division (MED) for their assistance during the response, including supporting the temporary evacuation of nearby residents and traffic controls.

The scene has been turned over to the RCMP, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Yellowknife Fire Division reminds residents to regularly test smoke alarms and ensure they are in proper working order. Working smoke alarms provide critical early warnings in the event of a fire and can significantly improve life safety outcomes.
