The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) responded to a residential structure fire at 5017 47 Street during the early morning hours of Sunday, June 28, 2026.

YKFD crews responded within six minutes of receiving the call and found that all occupants had safely evacuated the home prior to their arrival. Crews brought the fire under control and remained on scene to ensure the area was safe.

There were no injuries reported, and the fire was contained to the residence, with no damage to neighbouring properties. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

YKFD recognizes the prompt actions of the home's occupants, whose safe evacuation helped prevent injuries. The City also acknowledges its partner agencies, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Municipal Enforcement Division, for their coordinated response throughout the incident.

As this was the second residential structure fire in recent weeks, YKFD is reminding residents that working smoke alarms save lives. Test smoke alarms regularly, replace batteries as needed, and ensure alarms are installed on every level of the home and outside all sleeping areas.

Residents are also encouraged to review their home fire escape plan and ensure everyone in the household knows two ways to exit in the event of a fire. Taking a few moments to prepare can make a critical difference during an emergency.
