The City of Yellowknife’s Annual Garden Competition is back for 2026, and blooming better than ever!
From July 1 to 31, 2026, residents are invited to take part in this fun, community-driven celebration of the gardeners whose creativity and green thumbs help beautify our city. This year, the competition will be delivered through a new interactive app, making it easier than ever to participate.
Residents will be able to:
- Submit photos of their gardens directly through the app
- Browse, view, and vote for their favourite gardens throughout the competition period
2026 Garden Categories

Tiny Garden
Gardening of all types in small spaces such as plots, patios, and balconies. -
Bee Friendly
Environmental and pollinator-friendly gardens with little to no lawn, showcasing alternative and eco-conscious landscaping. -
Vegetable Garden
Gardens focused on vegetables, herbs, and other edible plants. -
Flower Garden
Gardens that are welcoming and visually appealing, featuring an abundance of blooming flowers and strong curb appeal. -
Container Garden
Creative container gardening in small spaces, including plots, patios, and balconies. -
Rock Garden
Gardens that feature rocks and stone elements while showcasing creativity and resilience in northern horticulture.
