Street, Park and Trail Naming Application

Meaningful naming is an integral part of community place-making. Any person or organization may submit a request to name a street, park or trail within the City of Yellowknife.

• All streets, parks and trails shall be named either after individuals who have made a significant contribution to the history or development of Yellowknife; or to reflect the culture and history of the City or surrounding neighborhood; or by theme.
• Where street names in a neighborhood or subdivision are based on a specific theme, the name of all new streets shall be consistent with the theme.
• Names will be considered for their Uniqueness, Distinctiveness, and Contribution by an individual.
• Names of streets, parks or trails should not be changed and will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.
