Welcome, Fort Simpson Evacuees!
Public Notice: Multiplex Serving as Evacuee Reception Centre
To everyone who has been displaced, we extend a warm welcome. We know this is a difficult and uncertain time, and we want you to know that our community is here to help.
To support the response to the Fort Simpson evacuation, the Yellowknife Multiplex has been activated as a reception and lodging centre for evacuees. The facility is closed to the public until further notice.
Upon registering at the Multiplex, evacuees will receive a neon green wristband. This wristband provides access to reception centre services, including:
- Sleeping cots
- Meals
- Shower facilities
- Free Yellowknife Transit service
City of Yellowknife day camps scheduled to begin at the Multiplex will instead operate from the Fieldhouse until further notice.
The City will continue to provide updates on impacts to municipal facilities, programs, and services through the City's website and social media channels as information becomes available.
How You Can Help
Community members wishing to support Fort Simpson evacuees are encouraged to make a monetary donation through the Salvation Army, which is coordinating donation efforts. Donations can be made online at Transform Lives Today! or in person at the Salvation Army NWT Resource Centre, located at 4925 45 Street, Yellowknife.
Thank you for your compassion, patience, and understanding as we support our neighbouring community during this time.
