The City of Yellowknife is inviting applications for the Government of Canada Reaching Home – Special Projects funding stream. Up to $300,000 is available to support one-time, time-limited initiatives that strengthen Yellowknife's response to homelessness.
The Special Projects funding stream supports one-time, time-limited initiatives that address identified community needs, fill service gaps, build community capacity, or improve the local homelessness response system.
Project Timeline
• Application Deadline: July 31, 2026
• Project Period: From project approval – April 30, 2027
Reaching Home funding supports a wide range of activities aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness. Eligible projects may include:
• Housing services: Supporting individuals to secure and maintain stable housing through housing search assistance, short-term rental supports, housing placement services, and help with setting up new housing.
• Prevention and shelter diversion: Supporting people who are currently housed, but at imminent risk of losing their housing, or individuals who are being discharged from public systems (e.g., health, correctional, and child welfare) from being discharged to emergency shelter or the street.
• Client support services: Services that promote stability and well-being, such as basic needs supports (food, clothing, shelter supplies), clinical and treatment-related coordination, employment and income assistance, and social or community integration programs.
• Capital investments: Building, renovating, or improving shelters, transitional housing, supportive housing, or service facilities for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, along with the necessary supports to help people use these spaces effectively.
• Coordination of resources and data quality improvement: Activities that strengthen system integration and collaboration, including Coordinated Access systems, Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS) data quality improvements, and enhanced planning, reporting, and performance measurement.
Applications will be reviewed by the Community Advisory Board on Homelessness, which will determine funding allocations based on the Reaching Home Directives and evaluation criteria.
The City encourages eligible non-profit organizations with projects that strengthen Yellowknife's homelessness response system to apply. All proposed projects must meet the Reaching Home Directives.
