The City of Yellowknife is inviting residents to attend a public open house to learn about the proposed Kam Lake Area Development Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment. The open house will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the ATCO Aquatic Centre.
As Yellowknife continues to grow, planning for future commercial, agricultural, light industrial and public utility land uses is important to support local business retention, expansion, and attraction.
Kam Lake is one of Yellowknife’s key employment and business areas, with a primary focus on the production and sale of goods, warehouses, showrooms, and outdoor storage. The proposed Kam Lake expansion focuses on undeveloped City-owned land located to the west of the established Kam Lake areas. The subject land is approximately 65 hectares in size.
"This development reflects a balanced approach to growth, supporting economic development while upholding responsible land use planning," said Charlsey White, Director of Planning & Development. "It will create opportunities for investment, business growth, and long-term community prosperity."
The event will provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about the proposed Kam Lake Area Development Plan and Zoning, including how the draft concept plan was developed using previous public consultation, the market study, environmental impact assessment and the rationale behind key planning recommendations. Residents will also be invited to share their perspectives on the proposed concepts and overall direction of the plan.
Feedback received through the public open house will be considered as the Area Development Plan is finalized and moves forward through the Council decision process.
