Community programs play an important role in helping Yellowknifers stay active, learn new skills, explore new interests, and connect with others. They also create opportunities for residents of different ages and backgrounds to come together and take part in activities that support recreation, wellness, and community connection.

As residents’ interests and needs change, the City wants to ensure its programs continue to reflect what matters to the community. The 2026 Community Services Programs Survey gathered feedback on current programs, new opportunities residents would like to see, and barriers that may make participation difficult.

What We Have Done So Far

The 2026 Community Services Programs Survey is now complete. From March 16 to April 15, 2026, the City invited residents to share what they value about community programs, and a total of 186 responses were received.

Residents expressed interest in:

  • More flexible evening, weekend, drop-in, and registered options
  • A wider range of creative, practical, wellness, and family programs
  • Clearer communication about programs and registration dates, more affordable and accessible programming
  • Programs that support learning, recreation, and social connection

Read the Community Services Programs Survey: What We Heard Report for a full summary of the feedback received.

Feedback from the survey will help inform, guide and improve future community service programming.
