The City of Yellowknife carries out construction projects throughout the year to maintain and improve public infrastructure. The 2025 capital projects related to our roads and water systems can be found below. Although construction may cause short-term disruptions, it is essential for keeping the City's infrastructure safe, functional, and up to date.

TRAFFIC SIGNAL REPLACEMENT

INTERSECTION CLOSURE - Franklin Ave and 52 Street

Project Area: Franklin Avenue and 52 Street Intersection
Start: September 7, 2025 intersection CLOSED
It is anticipated work will continue September 8 and 9, with lane restrictions, detours and temporary road closures as required to complete the work.
Contractor: City Of Yellowknife
Description: Traffic signal replacement, will include replacing the 4 traffic signal poles, intersection streelighting at Franklin Avenue and 52 Street.

2025 Paving Program

Project Areas:
Start/Finish: Early May – Mid September
Contractor: ACE Enterprises Ltd.
Description: This program includes regrading and paving roadways, reconstruction of sidewalks, and as well as some storm water infrastructure upgrades. The roads will be Local Traffic Only with access to homes from each end of the street. Lane restrictions, detours and temporary road closures may be required to complete the work.

2025 Patching Program

Project Area: City Wide
Start/Finish: Early June – Late September
Contractor: ACE Enterprises Ltd.
Description: The project will include small to medium repairs of roadways and sidewalks. Lane restrictions, detours and temporary road closures may be required to complete the work.

Water and sewer construction

Lift Station #1 Replacement (Old Town Parking Lot)

Project Area: Old Town Parking Lot
Start/Finish: July 2025 – July 2028
Contractor: Industra Construction Corp.
Description: The Lift Station #1 Replacement Project is a critical investment in the City’s wastewater and sewage system to ensure reliable service for the community for decades to come. Construction of the lift station is anticipated to take approximately two years, during which time the parking lot will remain closed to all public access.

2025 Water and Sewer Construction Contract A

Project Area: Mandeville Drive from Finlayson Dr. to Hordal Rd.
Start/Finish: Late May – Mid September
Contractor: NWT Construction Ltd.
Description: The project will include the replacement of water, sewer, storm and streetlighting. Services to homes on Mandeville Drive will be upgraded. The road will be Local Traffic Only with access to homes from each end of the street.

2025 Water and Sewer Construction Contract B

Project Area: 49A Avenue between 41 St. and 42 St. and 41A Street
Start/Finish: Late May – Mid September
Contractor: NWT Construction Ltd.
Description:The project will include the replacement of water, sewer and storm infrastructure. Services to homes in the area will be upgraded. The roads will be Local Traffic Only with access to homes from each end of the street.

2025 Service Connection Failure Assistance Upgrades (SCFA)

Project Area: City Wide
Start/Finish: Mid June – Early September
Contractor: RTL Robinson Ltd.
Description: Services to homes will be upgraded. Local traffic only access, and temporary water shutoffs are required to complete the work.
