New Year's Eve Fireworks

The City of Yellowknife invites residents to join us as we ring in 2025 at the annual fireworks display. The show will take place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. Residents can enjoy the show from the Somba K’e Civic Plaza, as the fireworks will be set off on Frame Lake.  

Please be aware of the following safety reminders:

• If viewing the fireworks near Frame Lake, be sure to avoid the area where the fireworks are being set off. This area is outlined in red on the map located on our website....

2024-25 Holiday Lights Competition

The City of Yellowknife (the City) and Naka Power Utilities (Yellowknife) are pleased to announce the return of the annual Holiday Lights Competition. Residents are invited to brighten up our community during this dark time of year by decorating their homes with festive lights.

Development Incentives

The City of Yellowknife is pleased to introduce new development incentives (tax abatements and grants) to support housing, land and revitalization initiatives. These incentives are available to the successful individuals, businesses and organizations who complete an application.

Tax abatement and grant applications are now open, and will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as funding for this multi-year program is limited and will be allocated...

City of Yellowknife Holiday municipal service schedule is as follows:

CITY HALL will close at 12:00 noon on December 24, 2024 & at 3:00 p.m. on December 31, 2024 and will be closed on December 25 and 26, 2024 and on January 1, 2025.

SOLID WASTE FACILITY will be closed on December 25 and 26, 2024 and January 1, 2025. Holiday hours of operation for the Solid Waste Facility can be found here.
